Back Pain

Change your body, Change your Life.

80 million Americans suffer from chronic back pain!

I could barely walk into the studio when my wife dragged me into The Back and Body Studio. Now I am running marathons!

Chronic Pain is at epidemic levels in this country and throughout the world.

80 Million People suffer from Back Pain

As an athletic trainer, I have been required to get my professional athletes back on the field or court as soon as humanly possible. I can’t tell them to rest until the pain goes away.  So in the past 25 years, I have studied, searched and taken many courses to help me put more tools in my toolbox.

Bad Back does not really cover what this program does, but our clients seem to relate to the program.  –Mary Kim-Garrity, founder

Our approach has several layers that are introduced to our clients:

1) Assessment: First we must figure out what muscles are dormant, overused or firing at the wrong time. If the pain is chronic, we look at higher order visual and vestibular systems of the brain and re-train them.

2) Treatment Plan: Manual and Movement Therapies are introduced first.  As we peel back the layers of your movement onion, we will begin to activate dormant muscles, turn off over-used muscles and reconfigure muscle firing patterns.

3) Client Education:  Pain makes you stupid!  When you experience pain, your body compensates. First your brain turns off some of the muscles in the area of pain. Then other muscles have to be over-used to keep you mobile. Pain and over-use then throws off when and how muscles fire.

4) We will teach you how to maintain homeostasis (ultimate health). And we are always here for you! We have on-call services for emergencies.

What our clients are saying:

Michael had frozen shoulder. He couldn’t afford to have frozen shoulder because he works in construction. Michael came to the studio for six months and feels great. He visits frequently.

Richard, a type I diabetic, needed to maintain circulation to his extremities. When I met him, he was in a wheel chair.  Now he comes in for maintenance now and then.

Amy is a division I soccer player who got injured and is at the post rehabilitation stage of her recovery.  It took the whole summer, but Amy is back on the soccer field and captain of her soccer team.

Joanie had a hip replacement and was in a lot of pain two months after the surgery.  What I explained to her is that “your muscular-skeletal system caused the hip issues to begin with. The surgery didn’t correct muscle firing patterns and dysfunction of your hip.  We will address those first, decrease your pain and then help you start your life again!”

Terry was a surgical candidate for her left hip and right knee.  Surgery was recommended 3 years ago.  Terry has not had the surgery, lives without pain and she became a Pilates instructor.  Terry now works in the midwest.

Alan is an executive who suffers from knee and lower back pain.  His pain flairs after driving.  We did several sessions to change the muscle firing patterns of his deep core.  Then we did some vision training and his knee pain was gone.  More importantly, he is now back to golfing and swimming.
